NEW FOR 2011:

- Exterior colours: Black Metallic (GS350 AWD) and Starlight Black Mica (GS450h) added

For 2011, the Lexus GS is available only as the GS350 AWD; the GS350 in rear-wheel drive and the V8-powered GS460 have been discontinued. The GS450h hybrid model is unchanged, except for a new colour. The GS350’s available Premium Package cuts down on some of the features, which move to the Ultra Premium Package.

The GS line-up consists of the GS350 AWD, with 3.5-litre V6 and six-speed automatic transmission, and the GS450h hybrid, which uses the 3.5-litre V6 with hybrid system and CVT.

Features on the GS350 AWD include 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic recirculation mode, Smart Access with pushbutton ignition, power tilt and telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, power sunroof, auto up/down windows, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, compass, cruise control, premium illuminated entry system, garage door opener, privacy glass, wood interior trim, ten-way power heated perforated leather seats, driver’s side memory, floor mats, six-CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input and USB port, XM satellite radio, electroluminescent gauges, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, tire pressure monitoring system, auto-levelling adaptive xenon headlamps with washers, fog lamps, water-repellant door glass, rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding mirrors with integrated turn signals, puddle lamps and auto tilt-down in reverse, anti-theft alarm, and first-aid kit.

The Premium Package adds intuitive parking assist, rear spoiler, navigation system, back-up camera, and heated and ventilated seats.

The Ultra Premium Package adds six-CD/DVD Mark Levinson stereo with 14 speakers, wallet-size Smart Key, power rear sunshade, and rear-seat side airbags.

The GS450h builds on the GS350 and adds power rear sunshade, intuitive parking assist, 14-speaker Mark Levinson premium sound system, and rear seat side airbags.

Issue: This recall is for certain block heater kits installed on certain vehicles or sold as accessories at Toyota or Lexus dealerships. On certain vehicles, the engine block heater cable may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high temperatures. If this happens, the cable could short circuit while plugged in, and cause the wiring to overheat or melt. Corrective Actions: Toyota recommends that you should stop using the engine block heater immediately. Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to disable the engine block heater. For some vehicles, the corrective actions for this recall are under development. For others, a new engine block heater cannot be installed, and the owner will receive a refund of the purchase price of the engine block heater.

On certain vehicles, the bolts used to secure the housing and sprocket of the intake-side Variable-Valve Timing (VVT) gear assembly could loosen. If this occurs, the VVT gear will not control the intake valves correctly. In some instances, the VVT gear housing and sprocket could separate, causing the engine to stall. Engine stalling would result in a loss of vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the VVT unit with an improved version.
