2005 Lexus GS 300

Due for a replacement in 2006, the Lexus GS 300 and GS 430 remain unchanged for 2005, save for the discontinuation of some exterior paint colours.

The two models are named for their engines: the GS 300 uses a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder, while the GS 430 carries a 4.3-litre V8. Both are rear-wheel-drive and use a five-speed automatic transmission.

Both models share similar appointments, including 16-inch alloy wheels, leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel with power tilt, automatic dual zone climate control, six-CD changer with seven speakers, heated leather bucket seats with ten-way driver and six-way passenger adjust with driver’s two-position memory, auto up/down on all windows, auto-dimming rearview mirror, woodgrain trim, leather door trim, power sunroof, heated auto-dimming side mirrors, variable intermittent wipers, high intensity discharge headlamps with light control, auto-levelling and washers, fog lamps, cruise control and Homelink universal garage door opener.

Halfway between Lexus’ entry and premium sedans, the GS is intended as sporty luxury, with good driving dynamics courtesy of a fully independent suspension with front and rear double-wishbones and coil springs, and excellent brakes. The six-cylinder, which features an E-shift manual override on the transmission with wheel-mounted shift buttons, has a smaller price tag but lacks the sports car punch of the V8. With this generation of GS on its way out, you’ll have to hurry if you want to get one before they’re all gone.
