Kia's fun box on wheels moves into 2016 with minor trim updates. A few features are shuffled up to higher trims, and the top-end SX Luxury model gains lane departure and frontal collision warning systems.
Engine choices are between a pair of four-cylinders. A 1.6L puts 130 hp and 118 lb-ft of torque through either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission in LX models, while EX and SX trims get a 2.0L good for 164 hp and 151 lb-ft, which can only be had with the automatic.
Fuel consumption estimates are 9.9/7.8 L/100 km (city/highway) with the 1.6L and stickshift; optioning to the automatic reduces city consumption to 9.8 and leaves the highway rating untouched. 2.0L models are rated 9.7/7.7 with an optional idle stop-and-go system, or 9.8/7.5 without it.
Standard kit in LX MT trim includes 16-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, electric power steering with selectable assist, tilt-and-telescopic steering column, trip computer, luggage area power outlet, fog lights, cloth seating, height-adjustable driver's seat, power door locks, windows and mirrors, heated side mirrors, six-speaker stereo and a windshield wiper de-icer.
LX AT adds the automatic transmission, Active ECO drive mode system, air conditioning and keyless entry.
LX+ MT builds on the LX MT and adds air conditioning, keyless, cruise control, heated front seats and side mirror-mounted turn signal repeaters.
EX AT builds on the LX+ MT with the 2.0L engine, automatic transmission, Active ECO and 17-inch alloy wheels.
EX+ AT adds projection headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, leather-trimmed steering wheel and shifter, leatherette-trimmed door panels, armrest and gauge cluster, UVO infotainment, backup camera, piano black interior trim and roof rails. An EX AT Eco model gets idle stop-and-go and reverts to 16-inch wheels.
SX AT models get 18-inch wheels, power-folding side mirrors, LED flashlight, leather seating, gloss black bumpers and side mirrors, heated steering wheel, automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, intelligent keyless with push-button start cooling glove box and an upgraded gauge cluster.
Finally, SX AT Luxury models come with panoramic sunroof, HID headlights, front LED positioning lights, ventilated front seats, power driver's seat with lumbar, heated rear seats, multimedia interface with navigation, upgraded stereo, LED map lights, cargo cover, lane departure warning and front collision warning.
