For 2009, the Kia Sorento adds a new base trim line, the L, bringing the total number of available levels to four.
The Sorento is available with a choice of powertrains, both of them V6 models: a 3.3-litre in the L, LX and LX Luxury, and a 3.8-litre in the 3.8 LX Luxury. All use a five-speed automatic transmission. The 3.3-litre comes with a part-time 4x4 system, the 3.8-litre with a full-time torque-on-demand system.
Features on the L include 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, CD/MP3/WMA stereo, Bluetooth connectivity, four speakers, cruise control, power locks with keyless entry, manual remote mirrors, tilt wheel, trailer pre-wiring, power windows with driver’s side auto-down, fog lamps, front and rear mud guards, roof rails, skid plates, variable intermittent wipers, intermittent rear wiper, floor mats, metal grain interior accents, cloth seats, and 60/40 split-folding rear seat.
The LX adds 16-inch alloy wheels, two extra speakers, heated power mirrors, rear privacy glass, windshield wiper de-icer, solar glass, air conditioning filter, rear cupholders, heated seats, and lumbar support.
The LX Luxury models add 17-inch alloy wheels, wheel-mounted audio controls, exterior cladding, chrome-plated door handles, power sunroof, cargo cover, dark wood grain interior accents, heated leather seats, six-way power driver’s adjustment, and leather-wrapped wheel.
The 3.8 LX Luxury further adds dual-zone automatic climate control and trip computer.
The body-on-frame Sorento offers tough capability but with a comfortable ride, and it’s equally at home on city streets or hauling the family to the rough cottage road. It’s roomy and has good towing capacity for its size, and includes Kia’s long warranty to sweeten the deal; the new base L trim line provides a buy-in under $30,000 but with plenty of features nevertheless. An available rear-seat DVD system for the L and LX has been reduced by $300 and now has an MSRP of $695.
