Kia's compact Rio moves into 2016 with a raft of updates that include revised styling (new grille, bumpers and front fascia), new wheel designs and some shuffling of features between various trim levels.
All models use a 1.6L four-cylinder engine that makes 137 hp (down one hp from last year) and 123 lb-ft of torque and comes mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed automatic. The Rio is offered in sedan and hatchback body styles.
Fuel consumption ratings are 8.8/6.4 L/100 km (city/highway) for cars with the manual transmission, 8.7/6.3 with the automatic, and 8.5/6.3 for automatic cars with an optional idle stop-and-go system.
Standard features in the entry-level LX model include the manual transmission, 15-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, electric power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, tilt steering, trip computer, power windows, locks and windows, cloth seats with six-way driver's seat adjustment (including height adjustment), 60/40 split-folding rear seat, heated side mirrors, four-speaker stereo, and body-coloured door handles and side mirror housings. The hatchback body style adds a rear wiper/washer.
LX+ MT trim adds air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, and Bluetooth; new features to this trim for 2016 include lighted vanity mirrors, mud guards and map lights.
LX+ AT trim adds the automatic transmission with Active ECO drive mode system, and LX+ AT Eco brings the idle stop-and-go feature.
EX trim gets 16-inch alloy wheels, telescopic steering column, leather-trimmed steering wheel and shifter, heated front seats, six-speaker stereo, UVO infotainment, backup camera, automatic headlights and fog lights. This model can be optioned with a sunroof.
SX MT trim deletes the automatic transmission, but adds 17-inch wheels, upgraded front brakes, sport-tuned suspension, intelligent keyless entry with push-button start, heated steering wheel, upgraded gauge cluster, cooling glove box, leather seats, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding side mirrors, projection headlights, LED taillights and LED daytime running lights.
SX AT trim adds the automatic transmission, Active ECO system and paddle shifters. A navigation package adds navigation and a sunroof.
Prices range from $14,295 for the LX sedan to $22,995 for the SX hatchback with navigation package.
