History/Overview
Kia last redesigned the Optima in 2016, and that fourth-generation model enters its final year in 2020. An all-new, fifth-gen Optima is expected to arrive for 2021.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
In anticipation of next year's new Optima, the 2020 car sees its offerings pared down to two trims. Also, the powerful 2.0L turbo engine is gone.
Available Trims
Kia offers the 2020 Optima in EX and EX+ plus, the latter being a new designation this year. Both cars use a 2.4L four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.
Standard Features
The 2020 Kia Optima EX's exterior comes dressed with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic on/off headlights with high beam assist, fog lights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, a windshield wiper de-icer, passive keyless entry with hands-free trunk opening, and heated/power-folding side mirrors.
Inside, there's leather upholstery, heated front seats with eight-way power driver adjustments, a heated/tilt-and-telescopic/leather-trimmed steering wheel, a leather-trimmed shift lever, power windows, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8.0-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Standard safety features include rain-sensing wipers, tire pressure monitoring, lane keep assist, driver attention alert, forward collision detection with automatic braking, rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert.
EX+ trim adds a panoramic sunroof, satellite radio, UVO connected car services, and LED interior lighting.
Fuel Economy
Kia's fuel consumption estimates for the 2020 Optima are 9.5/7.1 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
With the Optima, Kia competes in a mid-size sedan class whose fortunes are slowing fading in North America. Still, there are some big names here, like the Honda Accord, Toyota's Camry, the Chevrolet Malibu, the Mazda6, Subaru's Legacy, and the Nissan Altima. Finally, there's the Hyundai Sonata with which the Optima shares its platform and mechanical components.
