History/Overview
Kia has positioned itself as a leader among mainstream electrified vehicles and SUVs, but it hasn’t given up on the compact cars that used to dominate Canada’s new-car sales. The Forte5 is a stylish hatchback version of a car that’s also available as a sedan (which is covered in a separate buyer’s guide entry). Kia introduced the current Forte5 as a 2020 model.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The are no changes to the Forte5 this year.
Available Trims
Kia pitches the Forte5 in EX, GT, and GT Limited trim levels. EX uses a 2.0L engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), while GT and GT Limited get a 1.6L turbo motor with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Standard Features
EX models get 16-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, heated side mirrors, heated front seats/steering wheel, and A/C. Tech content includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, blind spot monitoring with collision intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision mitigation, lane keep assist, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert.
GT adds 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and fog lights, a sunroof, sport seats, dual-zone A/C, passive keyless entry, and highway driving assist.
GT Limited gains synthetic leather upholstery, heated rear/ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, upgraded audio, and adaptive cruise control.
Fuel Economy
Kia’s fuel consumption estimates are 8.6/6.5 L/100 km (city/highway) for EX trim, and 8.9/6.9 L/100 km for GT and GT Limited.
Competition
The Kia Forte5 faces off against the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Subaru Impreza, and Mazda3 Sport.
