History/Overview
The Kia Forte5 expands the brand’s compact car offerings with a five-door body style that toes the line between hatchback and wagon. This is one of just a handful of small hatchbacks left in a marketplace that has gone crazy for compact crossovers. The current generation of Forte5 arrived in 2020.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the Forte5 gets freshened styling refresh, and a few new tech items. The turbocharged GT model no longer offers a manual transmission, leaving a dual-clutch automatic as the sole gearbox.
Available Trims
The Kia Forte5 comes in EX, GT, and GT Limited trims. EX uses a 2.0L four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). GT and GT Limited get a 1.6L turbo mill and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Standard Features
Forte5 EX comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, auto on/off headlights, and heated side mirrors.
Inside, you get heated front seats, manual A/C, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, a heated steering wheel, and wireless phone charging.
EX trim’s standard safety suite comprises tire pressure monitoring, blind spot detection/collision avoidance, lane keep/follow assist, driver attention alert, forward collision mitigation, and rear cross-traffic alert.
GT trim gains 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, a sunroof, cloth/leather upholstery, power driver’s seat, and ambient lighting.
Finally, GT Limited gains leather upholstery, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, an upgraded sound system, ventilated front/heated rear seats, and adaptive cruise control.
Fuel Economy
Kia estimates the Forte5’s fuel consumption at 8.0/6.0 L/100 km (city/highway) with the 2.0L engine and CVT, and 8.9/6.9 L/100 km for the 1.6L turbo/dual-clutch combo.
Competition
The Kia Forte5 competes for the attention of compact hatchback shoppers with the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Subaru Impreza, and Mazda3 Sport.
