The Kia Amanti receives an overhaul for 2007: it receives a new, more powerful engine and upgraded features, and while its overall appearance doesn’t change too much, there’s a subtle refinement and smoothness over the previous generation, with more cargo space than before.
An aluminum 3.8-litre V6 replaces the 3.5-litre V6 of 2006, mated to a five-speed automatic; fuel economy improves over 2006 even though horsepower is increased by 30 per cent. Handling has improved over the previous generation as well, which could be unsettlingly wallowy at highway speeds.
The Amanti comes in a single trim line, including 17-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, Xenon headlamps, fog lights, front windshield de-icer, cruise control, one-touch up/down power windows, power locks with keyless entry, leather-wrapped wheel, CD stereo with wheel-mounted controls, LCD monitor with trip computer, dual-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, garage door opener, heated leather seats, eight-way driver and four-way passenger power adjustment with driver’s side memory, rear seat pass-through, four-wheel disc brakes, and side and curtain airbags.
The Amanti is much improved over its predecessor, although its exterior styling is still a mishmash, with cues stolen shamelessly from Mercedes and Jaguar. But it’s a very comfortable car, it’s now much better to drive, and it offers great deal of room, both for passengers and cargo.
