History/Overview
Jeep entered the compact crossover class in the late 2000s with a pair of then-new models. One of them was called the Patriot, and the other was the Compass. Only the Compass has survived, having entered its second generation in 2018.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the second-gen Jeep Compass gets a mid-run refresh with new exterior styling, a retuned suspension, and a thoroughly update interior with new standard and available tech features, and some new upscale touches.
Available Trims
2022 Jeep Compass trim levels include Sport, North, Trailhawk, and Limited. A 2.4L four-cylinder engine is standard across the range, along with a nine-speed transmission. All-wheel drive is standard in all but Sport trim, where it is optional.
Standard Features
Sport trim starts with 16-inch steel wheels, auto on/off LED headlights, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, six-speaker audio, A/C, 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment, and rain-sensing wipers.
North adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, passive keyless entry, remote engine start, a front wiper de-icer, and cornering fog lights.
Trailhawk adds vinyl/cloth seating, power driver’s seat, a 7.0-inch digital driver info display, auto-dimming rearview mirror, integrated garage door remote, underbody skid plates, tow hooks, and off-road tires and suspension.
Trailhawk also includes a number of driver safety assists: blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, active lane management, forward collision warning with automatic braking, and pedestrian/cyclist detection.
Limited trim also builds on North, with 18-inch wheels, leather seats, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
Finally, a Trailhawk Elite package gets a hands-free tailgate, LED taillights, automatic high beams, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, navigation, heated rear seats, and a full digital gauge cluster.
Key Options
A North convenience group adds the 10.1-inch touchscreen, digital gauge display, auto-dimming mirror, Alexa, hands-free tailgate, navigation, and a power driver’s seat. The North driver assistance pack bundles 360-degree camera views, adaptive cruise, active lane management, blind spot monitor, forward collision avoidance, pedestrian/cyclist detection, park assist, LED fog lights, and wireless charging.
Trailhawk’s sun, sound and nav group gets the digital gauge display, dual-pane sunroof, navi, and a premium stereo.
A sun and sound package comprises a panoramic sunroof and upgraded sound system.
The driver assist group brings 360-degree cameras, adaptive cruise, highway driving assist, park assist, and wireless charging.
A Limited Elite pack gets the digital gauge display, 19-inch wheels, automatic high beams, hands-free tailgate, gloss black trim, navigation, power front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, LED fog lights, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
Fuel Economy
Jeep’s fuel consumption estimates for the Compass are 10.6/7.6 L/100 km (city/highway) with FWD, and 10.8/7.8 L/100 km with AWD.
Competition
Jeep Compass counts among its key competitors the Ford Bronco Sport, Subaru Crosstrek, and Toyota RAV4 Trail. You can also cross-shop it against the Honda CR-V, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, and Ford Escape.
