History/Overview
Jeep has gone through a number of nameplates on its smaller models, but the Compass has endured. Likely because despite the small size of the crossover, it's able to go nearly anywhere you point it. It offers versions from mild to Trailhawk, and is the only model in its segment to offer low-range for the 4x4 system.
What's New
For 2021, Jeep has made the automatic gearbox standard along with heated front seats. Cold weather features including heated wheel and remote start are now standard on North and Trailhawk, Trailhawk and Limited add blind-spot monitoring, and there is a new 80th Anniversary trim and Altitude model with black-out trim.
Available Trims
Jeep offers the Compass in Sport, North, Altitude, Limited, and Trailhawk, with Sport offering front-drive or 4x4, the rest 4x4 only. All 4x4 models have a nine-speed automatic (six for FWD), and all have a 2.4L four with start-stop.
Standard Features
Sport offers push-button start, tilt/telescope steering, body0colour trim, and 16-inch alloys. It offers dual-zone climate control, a 3.5-inch driver dash display, cloth seats, heated front seats, Uconnect 4 with 7.0-inch touchscreen display, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
North adds fog lights, automatic headlights, roof rails, 17-inch wheels, wiper deicer, rain sensing wipers, leather steering wheel, and premium vinyl-trim seats. It also gets satellite radio, proximity key entry, and remote start.
Altitude adds black-out appearance options including a black roof and 18-inch wheels. It also has leather seats, Uconnect 4C with 8.4-inch screen and navigation, power driver seat, and larger 7.0-inch colour dash display.
Trailhawk is intended for more serious off-roading and includes a taller final drive ratio, higher weight rating, Active Drive Low low-range gearing, extra off-road drive modes, Trail Rated equipment including higher ride height, off-road tires, skid plates, red tow hooks, special fascias, full-size spare, and Trail Rated badging. The leather trim adds red accent stitching and ombre mesh cloth inserts. The driver seat is manual adjust, but it has the larger in-dash screen and 8.4-inch touchscreen without navigation.
Limited adds exterior chrome, black grille, 18's, and luxury leather trim.
Key Options
Option packs include Convenience Group on North, Altitude and Trailhawk with power driver-seat, power liftgate, and 7.0-inch driver display. Advanced Safety Group on Trailhawk and Limited adds forward collision warning, active braking, adaptive cruise, lane departure warning, and auto high-beams. Driver Assistance Group for North and Altitude adds those features as well as an alarm, rain-sensing wipers, and blind-spot monitoring. Trailhawk Elite adds power liftgate xenon lights, premium leather seats and navigation, while 80th Anniversary adds 19-inch wheels, leather seats, power driver seat, navigation, 115V power outlet, and more.
Fuel Economy
FWD Compass is rated for 10.6 L/100 km city, 7.6 highway, all others are 10.8/7.8.
Competition
The Compass competes with the Ford Bronco Sport as the only two off-road-oriented vehicles in the segment but also competes with Mazda CX-30, Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota RAV4, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, Honda CR-V, and the Fiat 500X.
