With an all-new model scheduled to debut for 2007, the 2006 Jaguar XK is unchanged, save for the addition of new “Victory” models, which commemorate Jaguar’s four wins in the North American Trans-Am road racing series. Approximately 1,100 Victory models have been allotted to North America.
The XK is available as the XK8 coupe and convertible, with a 4.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine, and as the XKR coupe and convertible, with a supercharged 4.2-litre V8. All four models also have Victory counterparts.
The XK8 coupe and convertible feature a six-speed automatic transmission, 18-inch alloy wheels, dynamic stability control, electric tilt and telescopic wheel, premium sound system, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, reverse park control, Burl Walnut wood trim, leather interior, wood and leather steering wheel, and on the convertible, an automatic electric power-latching top with glass rear window.
The XKR coupe and convertible add the supercharged engine, along with Brembo brakes with four-piston calipers, Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) with active damping, hood louvres, chrome mesh grille, quad tailpipe finishers, colour-keyed rear spoiler, sport-tuned suspension, Xenon headlamps and DVD-based navigation system.
The XK8 Victory models build on the XK8 and add Elm Wood veneer, soft-grain leather surfaces, leather-edged floor mats with Jaguar logo, Bluetooth wireless technology, 19-inch chromed wheels, checkered flag details on hood badge and treadplates, Xenon headlamps with dynamic levelling, leather-wrapped wheel, power-folding exterior mirrors and premium sound system.
The XKR Victory models build on the XKR and add carbon fibre interior trim, soft-grain leather surfaces, leather-edged floor mats with Jaguar logo, checkered flag details on hood badge and treadplates, Bluetooth wireless technology, 20-inch two-piece wheels, cross-drilled Brembo brake discs with red calipers, performance leather steering wheel and Momo gearshift knob.
Like the classic Jaguars from which it draws its heritage, the XK is a tight fit, especially in the rear seat, where the most comfortable occupants will be children. The Victory models add flair, and the supercharged versions add some serious performance. The XK models retain the sporting spirit of Jaguar, but all eyes are looking at 2007, when the all-new lightweight model comes to market.
