For 2007, the Jaguar XJ receives some enhancements. Bluetooth hands-free telephone interface is standard on all models, and Elm gloss veneers are available as an alternative to Burl Walnut. Soft-grained leather-trimmed seating with piping is standard on XJ8 and XJR; heated 16-way adjustable front seats with heated rear seats are standard on XJ8 and XJ8L. The XJ8 is now fitted with bright mirror caps, and front park control has been added to Vanden Plas.
The XJ is available as the XJ8 and XJR in standard wheelbase, and as the long-wheel base Vanden Plas and Super V8. A long-wheelbase XJ8 is available, at $92,000, but only as a special order; Canadians can also buy the XJR in Portfolio trim. The XJ8 and Vanden Plas models use a 4.2-litre V8, while the XJR and Super V8 use a supercharged 4.2-litre. All use a six-speed automatic transmission.
Features on both XJ8 models include 18-inch Tucana-style alloy wheels, Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) adaptive damping, self-levelling air suspension, reverse park control, electronic parking brake, tire pressure monitoring system, 16-way power-adjustable heated front seats with soft-grain leather, power-adjustable pedals with memory, power sunroof, wood and leather-trimmed steering wheel, Burl Walnut wood trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, Xenon headlamps with washers, laminated side and windshield glass with noise-reducing acoustic interlayer, eight-speaker CD stereo, and Bluetooth hands-free telephone interface. The XJ8L adds an electric rear sunshade.
The Vanden Plas adds 18-inch Rapier-style alloy wheels, front park control, heated wood and leather-trimmed steering wheel, twin-switched trimmed dash, deep-pile lambswool footwell rugs, 12-speaker six-CD premium stereo, navigation system, power-folding side mirrors and rear fold-down picnic trays.
The XJR includes the XJ8 features, and adds 19-inch Sabre-style alloy wheels, R-performance CATS damping and brake system, radar-based adaptive cruise control, front park control, heated wood and leather-trimmed steering wheel, twin-stitched trimmed dash, six-CD premium stereo, navigation system, electric rear sunshade and power-folding side mirrors.
The Portfolio adds 20-inch Callisto-style wheels, chrome tailpipes, polished aluminum side vents, Aluminum Weave veneer, leather-edged floor mats and charcoal leather seats.
The Super V8 also includes the XJ8 features, and adds 19-inch Custom-style alloy wheels, touring-tuned CATS adaptive damping, R Performance brake system, radar-based adaptive cruise control, navigation system, rear DVD entertainment system with twin display screens, front park control, electrically-adjustable rear bench seats with front passenger seat control, heated wood and leather-trimmed steering wheel, 12-speaker six-CD premium stereo, twin-stitched trimmed dash, deep-pile lambswool footwell rugs, power-folding side mirrors and rear fold-down picnic trays.
The XJ line covers a wide spectrum of driver desires: daily transportation, luxury limousine or sports tourer. The all-aluminum body structure means less weight for better handling and acceleration: the naturally-aspirated version travels zero-to-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, the supercharged version in 5.3 seconds – one quick cat indeed.
