History/Overview
The Jaguar XF is the latest in a long line of upscale British sedans that stretches back decades. In modern times, the 2009 introduction of the XF marked Jag’s breakaway from Ford, whose platform underpinned a previous sedan called the S-Type. Jaguar redesigned the XF in 2016, and refreshed it last year.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the XF gets a few minor changes: the cabin lighting is better, but last year’s 16-way front seats and 3D cameras are now options, with 12-way chairs and a regular backup camera replacing those items as standard features.
Available Trims
It speaks to the current status of luxury sedans that Jaguar offers the XF in just one trim – R-Dynamic SE – powered by a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine, AWD, and an eight-speed transmission.
Standard Features
The XF comes with a panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding mirrors with auto-dimming driver’s side, LED headlights, a power trunk lid, and 19-inch wheels. Inside, there are 12-way heated power front seats, heated steering wheel, two-zone A/C, digital gauges, a Meridian stereo, an 11.4-inch touchscreen, and wireless phone charging.
Standard safety features include forward collision mitigation, blind spot and rear traffic monitoring, clear exit and driver condition monitors, lane keep assist, front and rear parking aids, and traffic sign recognition.
Key Options
Adaptive cruise, surround-view cameras, a head-up display are all stand-alone options. You can upgrade the front seats to 16-way units and add either ventilation or ventilation and massage. An extended leather package wraps the dash and door tops in Windsor hides.
There are two packages available: a convenience pack bundles a power rear sun shade, activity key, soft-close doors, and additional power outlets; and a dynamic handling package brings configurable/adaptive dynamics, red brake calipers, and a trunk lid spoiler.
Fuel Economy
Jaguar’s fuel consumption estimates are 10.6/7.7 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
With the XF, Jag goes after shoppers who might be considering a BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Genesis G80, or Volvo S90. Its single powertrain means it only truly competes with entry-level versions of those cars.
