For 2007, the Jaguar X-Type receives some enhancements, with all models receiving dynamic stability control as standard equipment.
The 3.0 receives a standard power sunroof and split folding rear seats, while the Premium Sound Package becomes a stand-alone option, and a new Luxury Package replaces both the VDP Package and Premium Package. New 17-inch Bermuda-style wheels are available on the 3.0, and standard on Sportwagon.
The Sportwagon receives standard reverse park control, driver seat memory, premium sound system, auto-dimming rearview mirror, garage door opener, rain-sensing wipers and wood and leather steering wheel.
Based on the European Ford Mondeo, the X-Type is Jaguar’s entry-level model, available as the 3.0 sedan or the Sportwagon station wagon. Both use a 3.0-litre V6 engine with five-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system that normally operates at about 60 per cent rear-wheel bias.
Features on the 3.0 include 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlamps, leather-trimmed seats, Bronze Sapele wood trim, CD stereo with six speakers, power locks, power windows, eight-way power driver’s seat, front sliding armrest, rear centre armrest, automatic climate control, power sunroof and 70/30 split folding rear seats.
The Sportwagon adds 17-inch alloy wheels, reverse park control, premium sound system, wood and leather steering wheel, 10-way power driver and passenger seats with memory, auto-dimming rearview and side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, garage door opener, message and trip computer, roof rails, cargo cover and net, and hidden storage compartment with 12-volt power supply.
The 3.0 can be optioned with a Luxury Package of eight-way power and driver seats, Burl Walnut trim and steering wheel, 17-inch wheels, bright mirror caps, automatic headlamps, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, reverse park control, garage door opener, driver’s memory and message centre with trip computer.
Stand-alone options on both models include heated seats, navigation system, 18-inch wheels, Bluetooth hands-free telephone interface and special-order paint.
The X-Type offers an excellent opportunity to get into the Jaguar brand on a budget. With classic styling, gutsy engine and decent driving dynamics, the X-Type is a nice package for the price. The Sportwagon offers all the Jaguar niceties with the convenience of a cargo-hauler and a small, city-friendly footprint.
