History/Overview
Jaguar introduced the I-Pace -- its first-ever electric vehicle -- last year. Jag aims straight at the heart of the upscale EV market with this car, a compact utility that promises 375 km of driving range on a fully charged battery.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
For 2020, Jaguar drops the I-Pace's First Edition trim. Other changes have to do with option availability in the remaining trim levels.
Available Trims
Jaguar sells the I-Pace in S, SE and HSE trims. All three use the same 90 kWh battery and electric motors to provide standard AWD traction.
Standard Features
S trim includes 18-inch wheels, heated side mirrors with approach lighting, Luxtec eight-way sport seats, LED headlights, Meridian sound system, TouchPro dual-screen infotainment system, navigation, panoramic sunroof, LED taillights, rain-sensing wipers, two-zone automatic climate control, ambient interior lighting, active air suspension, interactive driver display, city-speed automatic emergency braking, driver condition monitor, traffic sign recognition, adaptive speed limiter, lane keep assist, cruise control, 360-degree exterior camera views, rear traffic monitor, clear exit monitor and park assist.
SE adds upgraded LED headlights with signature lighting, power tailgate, auto-dimming and power-folding side mirrors, grained leather upholstery, blind spot assist, adaptive cruise control and high-speed emergency braking.
HSE trim brings a hands-free tailgate, Windsor leather seating and a surround sound stereo.
Key Options
Options in S trim include a Drive Pack (high-speed emergency braking, adaptive cruise and blind spot assist); a Driver Assist Pack (it adds 360-degree camera views to the Drive Pack) and a Cold Climate Pack (heated windshield, heated washer jets and heated steering wheel).
SE options are limited to the Driver Assist and Cold Climate Packs. HSE's sole option is the Cold Climate Pack.
Stand-alone extras include four-zone climate control, configurable ambient lighting, and the Adaptive Dynamics drive mode selector.
Fuel Economy
Jaguar estimates the I-Pace's energy consumption at 2.9/3.3 Le/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
I-Pace competitors are thin on the ground for the 2020 model year. Closest in price is the Audi e-tron, which promises less driving range. The Tesla Model X goes a lot farther on a charge but is also significantly more expensive. Anything else you might cross-shop with the I-Pace is a plug-in hybrid with limited battery-only driving range.
