History/Overview
The Jaguar E-Pace is the storied British brand’s compact crossover model, introduced in 2018 to underpin the larger F-Pace that arrived a year earlier. You can take it as a sign of the times that this is now Jaguar’s entry-level model since the little XE sedan was discontinued after 2020.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2021, the Jaguar E-Pace enjoys a mid-cycle update that includes refreshed styling and incorporates the brand’s latest Pivi Pro infotainment system into a modernized cabin.
Available Trims
Jaguar offers the E-Pace in P250 and P300 Sport trim levels. Both are based around a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine, with the P300 boasting more power. All-wheel drive and a nine-speed transmission are standard with both.
Standard Features
Outside, the Jaguar E-Pace P250 wears 19-inch wheels, a power tailgate, passive keyless entry, auto on/off LED headlights with automatic high beams and signature lighting, chrome trim, rain-sensing wipers, heated/power-adjustable/power-folding side mirrors with driver’s-side auto-dimming, LED taillights, and rear fog lights.
Inside, you get a heated/leather-trimmed steering wheel, 12-way heated/power front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone A/C, an 11.4-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge display, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, satellite radio, and wireless smartphone charging.
Every E-Pace comes with forward collision warning with automatic braking, a driver condition monitor, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, 3D surround-view cameras, blind spot monitoring with rear traffic monitor, and front and rear parking sensors.
The P300 Sport model gains 20-inch wheels, an ebony suede headliner, lighted door sill plates, configurable drive modes, and an active AWD system.
Key Options
To the P250, you can add a dynamic handling package.
Both trims offer the convenience package (hands-free tailgate, and Jaguar’s activity key) and a cold climate pack of a heated windshield and heated washer jets.
Fuel Economy
As of this writing, Jaguar had not published fuel consumption estimates for the 2021 E-Pace. However, we expect those figures will be similar to last year’s estimates, at 11.0/8.4 L/100 km (city/highway) for the P250 and 11.2/8.6 for the P300 variant.
Competition
The Jaguar E-Pace plays in a busy segment of the upscale marketplace. It competes for buyers with another British make, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. Other contenders are Germany’s Porsche Macan, the Mercedes-Benz GLC, and the Audi Q3. Sweden’s involved here, too, with the XC40. America competes with the Cadillac XT4 and Lincoln Corsair. Finally, Japan supplies the Acura RDX, the Infiniti QX50, and the Lexus NX.
