NEW FOR 2014:
- New name.
Infiniti’s junior crossover carries over into 2014 with a new name that falls in line with the rest of the Infiniti range. Formerly known as the EX37, the G-based vehicle now wears a QX50 badge on its tailgate.
The QX50 is something of an anomaly in the premium compact crossover segment in that it’s a real hot rod. Where entry-level rivals typically offer 200-250 hp as a starting point, the QX50 offers 325 hp as standard – and often times, its starting price point is less than those vehicles! Weighty steering, a firm ride, and a cabin that’s wrapped around the driver gives it a very sporting feel. As one of the smaller models in its class, it doesn’t offer as much rear-seat legroom or cargo space, though available niceties such as power folding and power return rear seats, and a jacket hook integrated into the driver’s rear-seat head restraint are neat touches.
All QX50s receive a 3.7-litre naturally aspirated V6 as standard, which is paired to a seven-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Unlike other Infiniti models, the QX50 is offered in one trim with four different option packages: Journey, Premium, Navigation, and Technology.
Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, LED brake lights, power sunroof, aluminum roof rails, proximity key with push button start, dual zone automatic climate control with cabin filter, power windows with driver/front passenger auto-up/down, dual overhead front map lights, rear seat reading lights, eight-way power driver seat, four-way power front passenger seat, leather seating, heated front seats, Maple wood trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, power tilt and telescoping steering column, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, leather-wrapped shift knob, 7.0-inch display audio system with six-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio, auxiliary and USB input, Bluetooth, satellite radio, tilt/telescopic steering column, trip computer, reverse camera, analog clock, rear spoiler, automatic headlights, dual power outside mirrors, puddle entry light under driver's door mirror, speed-sensing wipers, and dual chrome exhaust finishers.
Premium Package adds 19-inch wheels, adaptive bi-xenon HID headlights, driver's seat memory, entry/exit assist, exterior mirror with reverse tilt-down feature, driver’s head restraint with integrated coat hanger, stitched instrument cluster hood, eight-way power front passenger seat, driver seat power lumbar, power folding 2nd row seats, 11-speaker Bose premium audio, garage door opener, Around View Monitor, parking sensors, and advanced climate control system with auto recirculation and air purifier.
