Developed primarily for the Chinese market, the Q70L is a version of Infiniti's top-end sedan model with a wheelbase stretched 15 cm. While the Q70 isn't the kind of flagship that can hold a candle to cars like the BMW 7 Series, Audi A8 or Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the extra rear seat legroom does enhance this car's appeal among buyers who associate interior space with luxury.
Going the long-wheelbase route is also the only way to get the Q70's available V8 engine, which is left off the standard-length car's option sheet. That 5.6L V8 makes 416 hp and 414 lb-ft of torque, while the standard 3.7L V6 is good for 330 hp and 270 lb-ft. Both come mated to a standard seven-speed automatic transmission and AWD.
Fuel consumption ratings are 13.2/9.7 L/100 km (city/highway) for the V6 and 14.9/10.2 L/100 km with the V8.
In spite of a higher starting price to go along with its extra length, we'd argue the Q70L is a better deal than the Q70 Sport, the pricier of two standard-wheelbase models available.
For $64,300 ($1,100 more than the Q70 Sport), the base Q70L comes with all of the smaller car's features, and adds niceties like heated rear seats, rear door close assist, semi-aniline leather upholstery, 360-degree camera system, predictive forward collision warning and backup collision intervention. Those are in addition to features shared by both cars, with include dual-zone automatic climate control, 18-inch wheels, intelligent keyless entry with push-button ignition, eight-inch colour touchscreen display, 10-speaker stereo with satellite radio, navigation, sunroof, Bluetooth with streaming audio, driver and front passenger seat memory, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel and front and rear parking sonar.
The Q70L 5.6 model is similarly equipped for its $68,800 pricetag, but adds the V8 engine.
