The Infiniti Q70 is the brand's flagship luxury performance sedan. Originally known as the M sedan (M37 and M56), it competes against the BMW 5 Series, Cadillac CTS, and Lexus GS. A rebrand for 2014 saw it emerge with a new name, refreshed styling, and tweaks to the suspension system. The Q70 is offered in standard and long-wheelbase Q70L forms, the latter of which is covered in a separate report.
New for 2017 is the Premium Select trim line, which adds unique dark-finish 20-inch alloy wheels, and dark finish trim to the front fascia, body side moulding, and rear bumper. There's also a rear spoiler, too. Inside, wood trim is swapped for brushed aluminum, while the seats and headliner receive upgraded semi-aniline leather and ultrasuede upholstery - materials previously exclusive to the Q70L. Special floor mats and illuminated kick plates round out the changes.
Whereas rivals offer a variety of powertrain options, the Q70 is available with one configuration. The engine is a 3.7-litre naturally aspirated V6 engine which produces 330 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. It comes mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission and uses all-wheel drive to harness the power. The Q70's system regularly defaults to 100% rear-wheel drive for neutral handling and better fuel economy but can transfer up to 50% of the power to the front wheels when traction is needed. Despite bulbous styling, the Q70 is quite aerodynamic with a drag rating of 0.27 cd, which helps it to achieve a fuel economy rating of 13.2 L/100 km city and 9.7 highway.
The standard Q70 packs a lot of standard equipment for the money. Luxury features that are typically optional on rivals are featured standard here, including heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, Bose audio system, navigation, 360-degree parking camera, and a power tilt and telescoping steering column. The Q70 also receives a year's worth of access to Infiniti Connect, the brand's on-call concierge service.
Opting for the Sport trim level adds 20-inch wheels, sport-tuned springs and dampers, larger four-piston front brake calipers, magnesium paddles for manual shifting, sport front seats with added bolstering, a stitched instrument cluster bin, as well as a more powerful 15-speaker Bose sound system with speakers integrated into the front seats.
Features such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring are also available, but only on the Sport trim level. Infiniti's laser-based system includes distance control alert with accelerator pedal feedback, emergency autonomous braking, and lane departure prevention.
