History/Overview
For many years, the Hyundai Accent was the Korean brand’s least-expensive vehicle in Canada, but it’s a clear sign of the times that Hyundai has replaced that well-known car with the Venue subcompact crossover, which is now the cheapest Hyundai you can get with a practical hatchback cargo opening. The Venue was introduced in 2020.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The are no changes to the Venue for 2022.
Available Trims
Hyundai offers its entry-grade crossover in Essential, Preferred, Trend, and Ultimate trim levels, all powered by a 1.6L four-cylinder engine. Essential trim starts with a six-speed manual transmission; all others use a continuously variable automatic (CVT) that is optional in Essential. Uncommonly for a crossover, the Venue cannot be had with AWD.
Standard Features
Venue Essential gets 15-inch steel wheels with covers, auto on/off headlights, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry. Essential models with the optional CVT also get cruise control.
Preferred adds 15-inch aluminum wheels, a heated/leather-trimmed steering wheel, and passive keyless entry, plus a suite of driver assists comprising lane keeping assist, forward collision mitigation, driver attention warning, automatic high beams, blind spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Trend gains 17-inch wheels and a sunroof, but loses all of Preferred’s safety assists except for the blind spot and rear cross-traffic warnings.
Ultimate regains the full set of safety assists, and adds rear disc brakes (in place of drums in lower trims), LED headlights, premium cloth seating, navigation, and automatic A/C.
Key Options
A Trend Urban package builds on Trend trim and adds LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, premium cloth upholstery, and two-tone paint.
Fuel Economy
Hyundai’s fuel consumption estimates for the Venue are 8.6/6.8 L/100 km (city/highway) with the manual transmission, and 7.9/6.9 L/100 km with the CVT.
Competition
The Venue’s primary competitors are the Nissan Kicks, Kia Soul, and Toyota C-HR, a trio of small crossovers that only come as front-drivers.
