Introduced last year, the Hyundai Elantra N is a high-performance sport sedan version of the company’s well-known compact car.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The are no changes to the Elantra N this year, but its status in the Hyundai lineup changes with the elimination of the Veloster N hatchback; that leaves this car and the Kona N crossover as Hyundai’s only sport compact models.
Note that there’s also an Elantra N-Line (covered in the regular Elantra’s buyer’s guide entry) with a different, less-powerful engine.
Available Trims
Hyundai offers the Elantra N in a single trim powered by a 2.0L turbo engine that comes with either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Standard Features
The Elantra N comes with 19-inch wheels, auto on/off LED headlights, a sunroof, passive keyless entry, and hands-free trunk opening. Inside, there’s suede/leatherette upholstery, heated front seats/steering wheel, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, eight-speaker audio, dual-zone A/C, digital gauges, and wireless phone charging.
The standard suite of safety features includes automatic high beams, forward collision mitigation, pedestrian detection, blind spot/rear cross-traffic collision mitigation, lane keeping assist, automatic high beams, driver attention warning, safe exit warning, and rear parking sensors.
Fuel Economy
Hyundai’s fuel consumption estimates are 10.9/7.7 L/100 km (city/highway) with the six-speed stickshift, and 12.1/7.9 L/100 km in cars with the eight-speed dual clutch.
Competition
If you’re keen on a sport compact car, your other options include the VW Golf R, Honda Civic Type R, and the Subaru WRX; if you’re not picky about cars versus crossovers, the Hyundai Kona N boasts similar performance.
