An all-new model in 2006, the mid-sized Hyundai Azera undergoes trim changes for 2007. The base model is now called the GLS, while the Premium model has been renamed the Limited.
Standard features on the GLS now include leather interior, while the Limited receives chrome bumper appliqués, an integrated memory system, mirror-integrated turn signals and woodgrain steering wheel as standard equipment. Steering wheel audio controls with seek up/down are standard on both, and black leather interiors receive contrasting light grey stitching. XM Satellite Radio will be standard equipment later in the model year.
The flagship model of Hyundai’s sedans, the Azera uses a 3.8-litre V6 aluminum engine with continuously variable valve timing and a variable intake system, mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with manual mode.
Features on the GLS include 16-inch alloy wheels, CD/MP3 stereo with six speakers, LED taillights and brake lamps, auto-dimming rearview mirror, automatic headlamps, power windows and locks, sunroof, garage door opener, leather interior, and power driver and passenger seats.
The Limited adds 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, wood-trimmed steering wheel and door pulls, chrome bumper inserts, six-CD stereo system, power-adjustable tilt-and-telescopic column, integrated memory system, power rear sunscreen, power-adjustable pedals, power-folding exterior mirrors and rain-sensing wipers.
The Azera, which replaced the XG350 sedan, offers a luxury-appointed interior, smooth ride, strong engine and numerous features. Its handling isn’t as tight as a sport sedan, but it’s still a very pleasant car to drive, and it offers the company’s long warranty. Shop it against competitors like the Buick Lucerne, Lincoln MKZ and Kia Amanti.
