All-new for 2006, the Azera is a replacement for the outgoing XG350, as Hyundai’s flagship sedan.
Longer, wider and taller than the XG350, with a longer wheelbase, the Azera offers 3497 litres (123.5 cu. ft.) of total interior volume, which Hyundai claims exceeds that of the Toyota Avalon or Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
The Azera uses an all-new 3.8-litre V6 aluminum engine with continuously variable valve timing and a variable intake system, mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with manual mode. It features a double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, with twin-tube gas-charged dampers and front and rear stabilizer bars and speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion steering.
The Azera comes in two trim levels; the base model includes cloth upholstery, solar control glass, windshield de-icer, power sunroof, CD/MP3 player with six speakers and wheel-mounted controls, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows and locks, Homelink garage door opener, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, eight airbags and automatic headlamps.
The premium trim level adds leather interior, power-adjustable pedals, electric rear sun screen, rain-sensing wipers, and six-CD changer with premium speakers.
