NEW FOR 2014:
- No changes for 2014.
Honda’s family-friendly box-on-wheels returns for model year 2014 unchanged. The spacious hauler offers standard seating for eight, strong fuel-economy figures, and a Jet-Puffed cushy ride. This generation of Pilot launched in 2009, and despite a major update in 2012 it's starting to feel a bit dated relative to other vehicles in its class. Its handling isn’t especially nimble, and it lacks the gusto and high-tech safety features that rivals offer.
All Pilots use a 3.5-litre V6 engine that has Variable Cylinder management (VCM) to run in six-, three- or four-cylinder mode, depending on power requirements, for increased fuel efficiency. All trim lines use a five-speed automatic transmission. The base LX model is available in front-wheel drive; it can be optioned with four-wheel drive that’s featured on all other models. The AWD system runs primarily in front-wheel but delivers power to the rear wheels upon acceleration, when it detects wheel slip, or when it is manually put into “lock” mode by the driver at speeds below 30 km/h.
Features on the LX models include 18-inch alloy wheels, tri-zone climate control, automatic headlamps, 60/40 split-folding second- and third-row seats, heated mirrors, cruise control, trip computer, power windows, keyless entry, CD/MP3 stereo with 229 watts and 2 GB of internal storage, variable intermittent wipers, intermittent rear wiper, tinted glass, roof rails, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, integrated trailer hitch, 8-inch i-MID display, USB input, rearview camera, and tire pressure monitoring system.
The EX adds 10-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, heated front seats, body coloured door mirrors, fog lights, chrome exhaust finisher, and roof rails.
The EX-L adds leather upholstery, power sunroof, a power tailgate, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, conversation mirror, and a four-way power passenger seat.
The EX-L RES adds a DVD-based rear-seat entertainment system and a 115-volt outlet.
The Touring adds unique 18-inch alloy wheels, full wiring for trailer hitch, power folding side-view mirrors with integrated turn signals, chrome side mouldings, memory settings for driver’s seat, multi-angle reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors, navigation, integrated rear-seat sunshades, multi-information display, rear cargo net, heated second-row seats, 650-watt premium stereo system with 5.1 Surround Sound and 15 GB internal storage.
Bluetooth connectivity, trailer connection wiring, multi-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, power tailgate, 115-volt outlet, navigation system, rearview camera, two-position driver’s side memory, premium six-CD stereo with USB connection, and heated second-row outboard seats.
