Long referred to as the BMW of minivans for its European-style road manners, the Honda Odyssey continues to offer buyers looking for space, seating for seven or eight, and practicality an excellent option. Now in its final model year, the Odyssey will have a short production cycle and it is being carried over effectively unchanged.
A brand new generation of Odyssey will be going on sale this spring, complete with new nine- and 10-speed automatic, a second-row seating system with diagonal-sliding seats, and a new camera system to keep watch over occupants in the third row.
All Odyssey trims are powered by a 3.5-litre single-cam V6 engine with i-VTEC that develops 248 horsepower. Cylinder deactivation and active noise cancellation are standard to cut back further on consumption and vibration. A six-speed automatic is also standard. Overall fuel consumption is a very reasonable 12.3 L/100 km city and 8.6 L/100 km highway.
The Odyssey is available in seven configurations, ranging from base LX to top-of-the-line Touring, a model that debuted the first built-in vacuum cleaner.
Equipment for the LX includes an eight-way power driver’s seat and four-way power passenger seat, dual-zone air conditioning, Bluetooth, 8.0-inch touchscreen display audio system, seven-speaker audio system, reverse camera, USB and aux-in jack, 60/40 split-folding third row seats, 17-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, LED taillights, heated power mirrors, splash guards, privacy glass, remote keyless entry, automatic headlamps.
The SE adds 17-inch alloy wheels, seating for eight, plus a removable front centre console with storage and trash-bin holder.
The EX adds 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, HondaLink smartphone integration, blind-spot camera, tri-zone climate control, proximity key with push-button start, heated front seats, second-row sunshades integrated into the sliding doors, power sliding doors, body-coloured mirrors, and body-coloured door handles.
The EX-RES adds a 9.0-inch overhead display with DVD player, 115-volt power outlet, RCA inputs, and dual wireless headphones.
The EX-L RES adds leather upholstery, leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power moonroof, power tailgate, front and rear parking sensors, and forward collision warning, lane-departure warning.
The EX-L Navi adds navigation and a multi-angle rear-view camera.
The Touring trim adds in-vehicle vacuum, blind-spot monitoring, third-row sunshades, premium audio system with 12 speakers, 16.2-inch ultrawide rear entertainment system display, driver memory, HDMI input jack, fog lights, auto-leveling HID headlamps, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Pricing for the 2017 Odyssey ranges between $31,090 and $49,190.
