History/Overview
For a quarter-century, the Honda CR-V has been a key player in the compact crossover vehicle segment that now dominates Canada’s new-vehicle market. The current CR-V is the fifth generation, which was introduced in 2017 and refreshed in 2020.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, there are no changes to the Honda CR-V.
Available Trims
Trim offerings are LX, Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Black Edition. Common to all is a 1.5L turbo four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). LX comes with either front- or all-wheel drive; all other trims include AWD.
Standard Features
Among the CR-V LX’s notable standard comfort and convenience features are heated front seats, heated side mirrors, auto on/off headlights, passive keyless entry, and dual-zone A/C. High-tech stuff includes a 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and two front-seat USB charging ports. CR-V LX rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels.
LX trim also comes with the Honda Sensing driver assist suite of forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure warning/lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.
Sport trim adds leatherette/cloth seating, a heated leather-trimmed steering wheel, leather shift lever, power driver’s seat, two rear-seat USB chargers, a six-speaker stereo (up from four speakers in LX), 19-inch wheels, power tailgate, LED fog lights, sunroof, and the LaneWatch blind spot display.
EX-L boasts an eight-speaker stereo, leather upholstery, woodgrain dash trim, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power front-passenger seat, and 18-inch wheels.
Touring gets navigation, ambient interior lighting, a nine-speaker stereo, wireless smartphone charging, LED headlights, panoramic sunroof, hands-free tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, 19-inch wheels, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert. Black Edition builds on Touring with black wheels and interior trim.
Fuel Economy
Honda’s fuel consumption estimates are 8.3/7.0 L/100 km (city/highway) for LX FWD, and 8.7/7.4 L/100 km for LX AWD and all other trims.
Competition
Key among the CR-V’s competitors are the Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, and Ford Escape. Others include the Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain, Volkswagen Tiguan, Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan Rogue, and Kia Sportage.
