History/Overview
Introduced in 2018, the Clarity was and remains Honda’s first plug-in hybrid model for Canada. It shares little with any of the company’s other models; the car has a higher profile in the U.S. market where the Clarity was launched as a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle and a now-discontinued battery electric vehicle. There are no changes to the Clarity for 2021.
Available Trims
Honda offers the Clarity in base and Touring trims. Both get their motivation from a 1.5L four-cylinder engine that works with an electric motor. With a full charge of its battery, the Clarity promises 76 km of electric driving.
Standard Features
Clarity’s exterior features include 18-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured door handles, LED headlights/taillights/daytime running lights, smart wipers, and passive keyless entry.
Inside, there’s an auto-dimming rearview mirror, active noise control, dual-zone A/C, heated front seats, an eight-speaker stereo with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 8.0-inch infotainment display.
Clarity’s standard safety package comprises forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure warning, tire pressure monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and the LaneWatch blind spot display.
Touring trim adds an integrated garage door remote, leather seating and steering wheel, navigation, HD radio, and satellite radio.
Fuel Economy
Honda’s fuel consumption estimates for the Clarity are 5.3/5.6 L/100 km (city/highway) when running as a gas-electric hybrid. On electricity alone, its energy rating is 2.1 Le/100 km.
Competition
With the Clarity, Honda competes directly with the Toyota Prius Prime, and Hyundai’s Ioniq and Sonata PHEVs.
