History/Overview
With an updated design on the way later in the 2022 model year, the GMC Sierra 1500 Limited is a temporary measure to keep this popular pickup’s production moving until the new-look truck comes along.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
Aside from the addition of the Limited label, this Sierra 1500 is virtually identical to the 2021 version, a design that debuted for the 2019 model year. The only notable change is the elimination of last year’s 4.3L V6 engine from the lineup.
Available Trims
GMC offers the Sierra 1500 Limited in Pro, SLE, SLT, Elevation, AT4, and Denali trim levels. Depending on trim, your powertrain choices include a 2.7L turbo four-cylinder, 5.3L and 6.2L gas V8s, and a 3.0L diesel inline six-cylinder; an 8- or 10-speed transmission; and rear- or four-wheel drive.
Standard Features
Pro trim comes with 17-inch steel wheels, LED exterior lighting, a locking tailgate, 3.5-inch driver and 7.0-inch infotainment displays, A/C, and power windows/locks/mirrors.
SLE trim adds alloy wheels, LED bed lighting, heated side mirrors, locking rear differential, heated/leather steering wheel, passive keyless entry, heated front seats with driver’s power adjustments, tilt/telescopic steering, a 4.2-inch driver display, dual-zone A/C, and cruise control.
Elevation gains 20-inch wheels, LED fog lights, and a rear window defroster.
SLT’s additions are 18-inch wheels, multi-function tailgate, power-fold/auto-dimming side mirrors, a power front passenger seat, 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and leather upholstery.
AT4 is an off-road-ready trim with all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels, spray-on bedliner, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats.
At the top of the range, Denali gets 20-inch wheels, chrome exterior trim, blind spot monitor, lane change alert, front and rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, a power sliding rear window, navigation, an 8.0-inch gauge display, premium leather upholstery, and wireless phone charging.
Key Options
An array of packages let you add items that are standard in the Sierra 1500 Limited’s upper trims to its lower-end models; if you want all the safety features this truck offers, you’ll find them in the Denali’s ultimate package, with its adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert, automatic high beams. It also brings a sunroof, head-up display, and a digital rearview mirror.
Fuel Economy
GMC rates the Sierra 1500 Limited’s fuel consumption starting at 10.2/7.8 L/100 km (city/highway) with the diesel engine and RWD; next up is the four-cylinder gasser, at 12.5/10.6; the 5.3L V8, at 14.4/11.3 L/100 km; and the 6.2L V8 at 15.7/11.9 L/100 km. Note that 4WD brings higher fuel consumption, as do the AT4’s off-road add-ons.
Competition
With the Sierra 1500 Limited, GMC does battle against the Ford F-150, Toyota Tundra, Ram 1500, and GM’s other full-size truck, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
