- Expanded driver information centre
- Gen IV V8 engines
For 2008, the GMC Savana receives updates, including a new standard curtain airbag on passenger models for the second and third rows.
Also sold as the Chevrolet Express, the Savana is offered as a passenger van, or as a cargo or conversion van. Although it's more often used as a commercial vehicle, it's a popular choice for those who want a large vehicle for hauling boats or trailers.
Passenger vans use a 5.3-litre V8 in 1500 configuration, and a 6.0-litre V8 in 2500 and 3500 models. Cargo models also come with a 4.3-litre V6 and 6.6-litre turbo diesel. All mate to a four-speed automatic transmission.
The 1500 can be optioned with all-wheel drive, while the 2500 and 3500 models can also be ordered in extended-wheelbase configuration. Passenger van trim lines are base and SLE; seating is from eight to 15 people.
The base model includes 16-inch steel wheels, front air conditioning, black bumpers with rear assist step, swing-out side cargo doors, fully-opening rear load doors, deep-tinted windows, manual flat-over-convex mirrors, variable intermittent wipers, full-length black vinyl flooring, auxiliary rear heater, vinyl front bucket seats, CD stereo, and theft-deterrent system. The 3500 models add a tilt column, and 3500 long-wheelbase models have rear air conditioning.
The SLE adds chrome bumpers, chrome grille, cruise control, power locks, colour-keyed carpeting with floor mats, tilt column, instrument panel stowage compartment, power windows, reading lamps, and cloth front bucket seats.
Depending on the model, available options include keyless entry, rear window defogger, left-side swing-out doors, right-side sliding door, power mirrors, rear air conditioning, power seats and cassette or six-CD stereo.
Other contenders in the segment include the Ford E-Series van and Dodge Sprinter.
