History/Overview
Introduced last year, the GV70 is Genesis’s first compact luxury crossover model, though it’s no longer the only one, having been joined this year by the all-electric GV60; still, the GV70 seeks shoppers in the market for a conventional upscale SUV that can keep up with some of the industry’s biggest names.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
There are no changes to the GV70 for 2023.
Available Trims
Genesis makes the GV70 available in Select, Advanced, Advanced Plus, Prestige, Sport, and Sport Plus trim levels. In the first four, power is from a 2.5L turbo four-cylinder engine, while Sport variants get a 3.5L turbo V6. All GV70s use an eight-speed transmission and AWD.
Standard Features
Select trim comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, auto on/off LED headlights with automatic high beams, LED taillights, rain-sensing wipers, and a heated steering wheel. You also get adaptive cruise control, wireless phone charging, passive keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a hands-free tailgate. Select’s other features include leatherette upholstery, heated/power-adjustable front seats, a nine-speaker stereo, a 14.5-inch touchscreen, and navigation.
In terms of safety, Select trim gets forward collision mitigation, blind spot/rear cross-traffic collision mitigation, lane departure/following/keeping assists, rear parking sensors, and driver attention warning.
Advanced models gain 19-inch wheels, power-folding/auto-dimming side mirrors, front parking sensors, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and leather upholstery. Advanced Plus adds a surround-view monitor, a head-up display, and an 18-speaker stereo.
Prestige’s additions are Nappa leather upholstery, a 16-way driver’s seat with power bolsters and cushion extension, and passenger lumbar.
Sport models get the V6 engine, plus 21-inch wheels and an electronically controlled suspension, but reverts to regular leather upholstery. Finally, Sport Plus gets a limited-slip differential, quilted Nappa leather, suede headlining, and a digital gauge cluster.
Fuel Economy
Genesis’s fuel consumption estimates are 10.7/8.4 L/100 km (city/highway) for four-cylinder GV70 models, and 12.9/10.0 L/100 km for V6-powered versions.
Competition
The GV70’s arrival last year put Genesis into a busy segment whose other options include the Lexus NX, Buick Envision, Jaguar E-Pace, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5, Acura RDX, Lincoln Corsair, Volvo XC60, Cadillac XT5, and Land Rover Discovery.
