Introduced in 2019, the Genesis G70 is the South Korean brand’s compact luxury sport sedan model; it slots into the Genesis lineup below the mid-size G80 and full-size G90.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the G70 gets a significant mid-cycle update focused on the car’s exterior, which now wears styling elements shared with Genesis’s other models.
Available Trims
Genesis offers the 2022 G70 in Select, Sport, Advanced, Prestige, and Launch Edition trims. Power is from either a 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged engine, or a turbo 3.3L V6. All-wheel drive and an eight-speed transmission are standard across the range.
Standard Features
Select trim comes with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, sunroof, heated steering wheel, digital driver info display, dual-zone A/C, passive keyless entry, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leatherette upholstery, heated/power front seats, 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, and six-speaker audio.
The G70’s base safety kit includes rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep/follow assist, forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, highway driving assist, and safe exit and driver attention warnings.
Advanced adds power-folding/auto-dimming side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, electric steering wheel adjustments, aluminum interior trim, front parking sensors, wireless phone charging, leather seating, ventilated front and heated rear seats, and 15-speaker audio.
Sport gains a suede headliner, sport seats, surround-view cameras, head-up display, hands-free trunk, and Nappa leather. Prestige and Launch Edition models are similarly equipped, but with the car’s standard front seats.
In addition, V6-powered G70 trims get an electronically controlled suspension, variable exhaust, limited-slip differential, and Brembo brakes.
Fuel Economy
As of this writing, Genesis had only published fuel consumption estimates for V6 versions of the 2022 G70; its ratings of 13.5/9.1 L/100 km (city/highway) make it a bit more efficient than the 2021 model. We anticipate the 2.0L powertrain will be a bit thriftier too; its 2021 ratings were 11.4/8.5 L/100 km.
Competition
The G70’s fiercest competitors are the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4 and S4, Lexus IS, and Acura TLX. Other cars to cross-shop include the Infiniti Q50, and Cadillac CT5.
