A favourite of police departments all over North America since the demise of the Crown Victoria, the Taurus is also available in Ford's showrooms.
This big, comfortable and roomy sedan comes in SE, SEL, Limited and SHO trims, and can be equipped with one of three engines depending on what trim you choose.
Standard in SE, SEL and Limited models is a 3.5L V6 that makes 288 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque. The option in SE and SEL grades is a 2.0L "EcoBoost" turbocharged four-cylinder generating 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. The high-performance SHO model is fitted exclusively with an EcoBoost turbocharged version of the V6 tuned for 365 hp and 350 lb-ft.
SE and Limited models can be optioned with AWD if they have the non-turbo V6. Limited models come standard with it, but the 2.0L turbo four-cylinder is FWD only. The SHO is all-wheel drive, all the time.
Natura Resources Canada's fuel consumption estimates are 11.8/8.1 L/100 km (city/highway) with the 2.0L engine and FWD, and 13.1/8.7 in cars with the V6 and FWD. Adding AWD to the V6 bumps those figures to 13.6/9.8 L/100 km, and the SHO's ratings are 14.1/9.8.
Standard features in SE trim include air conditioning, trip computer, keyless entry, SYNC infotainment system, cloth upholstery, six-way power front seats, capless fuel filler, backup camera, LED taillights, "sercuricode" keyless entry keypad, torque vectoring control, curve control and tire pressure monitoring.
SEL trim adds heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and satellite radio.
Limited models get AWD, remote engine start, a unique grille, woodgrain interior trim, and ventilated front seats.
Finally, the SHO gets a number of trim-specific styling cues, Ford's third-generation SYNC 3 infotainment platform, 20-inch wheels and a true dual exhaust setup.
Prices start at $30,000 for the SE and range up to the SHO's $46,499 MSRP.
