NEW FOR 2015:
- All-new model.
America’s pony car turns 50 in 2015, and there’s no more fitting way to celebrate its birthday than an all-new model. As with the latest version of the Edge crossover, Ford is making the Mustang a global vehicle for the first time in its storied history.
To ensure that the Mustang can wave the Ford flag proudly no matter where it’s driven, Ford has made this the most technologically advanced Mustang to date. Gone is the state of the ark live rear axle, replaced with a fully independent unit for reduced weight and better handling. Greater use of high-tensile steel has allowed for a stiffer structure without major weight gains, too. These changes ensure the Mustang is fighting fit and ready to take on the next-generation Chevy Camaro, and the recently updated Dodge Challenger.
The cabin is also a cut above the previous model maintaining its retro look while featuring better materials. There’s more soft touch plastic around the cabin, as well as metal switchgear and accent trim, plus aircraft-style instrumentation. Premium models can also be fitted with lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, heated and ventilated leather seats, and even radar cruise control.
Available in Fastback (coupe) and Convertible forms, the new Mustang can be had with three different engines – all of which make 300 horsepower or more. The base motor, a 3.7-litre V6, carries over with 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, while the GT's 5.0-litre V8 now turns out 435 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Between the two is a new 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost turbo model, which makes 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. It’s the first turbo Mustang since the SVO of the ‘80s, and also the most fuel-efficient version, too. All can be had with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.
There are eight different trim levels split between both body styles. The Fastback can be had in V6, EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, and GT Premium. The Convertible can be had in V6, EcoBoost Premium, and GT Premium.
The V6 Fastback features climate control with air conditioning and cabin filter, automatic headlamps, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, centre console with full armest, carpeted front floor mats, illuminated locking glovebox, leather-wrapped parking brake handle, leather-wrapped steering wheel with tilt and telescoping steering column, cruise control, sun visors with illuminated mirrors, power windows, proximity key with push-button start, two 12-volt power outlets, Track Apps, Sync voice-activated controls, reverse camera, AM/FM stereo with single CD player, dual USB outlets, 50/50 split folding rear seats, four-way manual front seats, cloth upholstery, HID headlamps with LED accents, LED tail lights, fog lamps, body-colour mirrors, wide-angle “spotter” blind spot mirrors, capless fuel filler, limited-slip rear differential, 17-inch alloy wheels, tire-repair kit, perimeter alarm, and tire pressure monitor.
