History/Overview
From its arrival in 2013, the current Ford Fusion has been one of the most stylish offerings in the mid-size sedan field. Ford refreshed the Fusion's look in 2017. We expect 2020 will be the last model year for the Fusion as its maker moves to a lineup stacked with more profitable crossovers and SUVs.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
Ford has pared the gasoline-powered Fusion lineup down to a single trim offering; among others, the speedy-but-low-volume Fusion Sport is gone, as is a 2.0L turbo and AWD, which were previously optional in most regular-grade Fusion trims.
Available Trims
The 2020 Ford Fusion comes in SE trim. Power is from a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission, which is connected to the front wheels.
Standard Features
Fusion SE comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning with automatic braking, automatic high beams, LED taillights, a capless fuel filler, backup sensors, 4.2-inch digital gauge cluster display, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a six-speaker stereo, Sync 3 infotainment, 10-way power driver's seat, six-way power front passenger seat, heated front seats, satellite radio and an electric parking brake.
Key Options
A 151A option package adds 18-inch wheels, fog lights, a rear spoiler and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.
An SE appearance package is similar, further adding a "light putty" interior colour treatment and LED signature lighting.
A sunroof is available as a stand-alone option.
Fuel Economy
Ford's fuel consumption estimates for the Fusion SE are 10.0/7.0 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The downsized Fusion has its work cut out for it, competing for buyers with cars like the newer Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Hyundai launched a new-for-2020 Sonata in the fall of 2019 that will also attract a lot of attention. Other mid-size sedans include the Kia Optima, Mazda6, Chevrolet Malibu and Volkswagen Passat.
