NEW FOR 2015:
- +5 hp, +5 lb-ft of torque for 2.5 engine.
- 1.6L EcoBoost engine discontinued.
- Manual transmission discontinued.
- Standard reverse camera.
Ford’s Fusion is a revelation in the midsize sedan segment. It’s been eons since a family sedan as spacious, practical, and comfortable as this has been as stylish or good to drive. Now in its third year of production, the Fusion remains effectively unchanged but for a standard reverse camera for all models.
Technology is a big part of the Fusion’s appeal. Leaf through the brochure and you’ll find that it has plenty of big-car features available ranging from full-speed radar cruise control with auto-brake, to lane-keeping assist, rear-seat inflatable seatbelts, and even automated parallel parking. Ford's SYNC system is standard on all models; the neat-looking but sometimes frustrating MyFordTouch system with its large eight-inch touchscreen display is available as an option.
For 2015, the Fusion is available with three engines: a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder (175 hp, 175 lb-ft of torque), a 1.5-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder turbo (181 hp, 185 lb-ft of torque), and a 2.0-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder turbo (240 hp, 270 lb-ft of torque). All come paired to a six-speed automatic as standard. The 2.5 and 1.5 motors come with front-wheel drive; the 2.0 can be had with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Ford also offers hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Fusion, which are covered in a separate report.
The Fusion is available in three trims: S, SE, and Titanium.
