This year, all Flex trims get the slick front-end treatment that was previously limited to the, well, Limited model. It makes this boxy crossover even more distinctive and, arguably, gives it a more expensive look. A range of engines and an options list filled with high-end features means there's a Flex for just about anyone not turned off by its polarizing styling. For our part, this is one of our favourite crossovers, quite simply because it eschews the rounded corners that so many automakers favour at the moment. The MyFord Touch system is improved, but still annoying, but the redesigned dash is generally easy to like.
The Flex is available with a 3.5-litre Ti-VCT V6 engine, or with a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 with twin turbochargers and direct injection. Both use a six-speed automatic transmission.
The SE, SEL and Limited use the 3.5-litre V6 but only the Limited can be optioned to the EcoBoost. The SE and SEL come in front-wheel drive, while the SEL can be optioned with all-wheel drive. The Limited is all-wheel drive only.
Features on the SE include 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 engine, six-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch aluminum wheels, manual climate control (front and rear), Ford MyKey, leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, leather-wrapped shift knob, cockpit integrated display, auto-dimming rear view mirror, power windows with driver's auto up/down, 2nd and 3rd row map lights, solar tinted glass, privacy glass on all windows behind 1st row, manual tilt/telescopic steering, 1st and 2nd row floor mats, six speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio with auxiliary input, Ford SYNC, cloth seats, 6-way driver/2-way front passenger seats, 50/50 3rd row split folding seats, reverse sensing system, automatic headlights, intermittent speed-sensitive front wipers, Easy Fuel capless fuel filler system, power locks, quasi-dual exhaust with chrome tips, chrome grille, black beltline molding, body colour door handles, power mirrors, monotone roof, body colour liftgate, integrated blind spot mirrors, four wheel disc brakes with ABS, LATCH, airbags (front, front seat, side curtain, second row seat belts), TPMS, anti-theft alarm, and remote keyless entry.
SEL trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, chrome beltline moulding, woodgrain interior trim, laminated front door glass, universal garage door opener, cargo net, heated front seats, media hub, satellite radio, SYNC with MyFord Touch, 10-way power driver's seat, fog lights, stainless steel bright beltline on sides and liftgate, and heated side mirrors.
