The F-550 is as big as Ford makes without moving to a medium-duty truck. This one is still a Super Duty pickup, but just barely. That's because it doesn't come with a bed. It comes as a chassis cab, ready to put whatever your work demands want. A dump bed? Sure. Manlift to reach trees or a power pole? You got it. A van box to haul loads of cargo inside? Anything your outfitter can dream up.
The F-550 can support a massive 5,774 kg. Or tow up to 14,424 kg. The big capabilities are thanks to the aluminum body that the truck gained last year. There are only two trucks in this class. This one, and the Ram 5500 chassis cab.
You can spec an F-550 with a regular cab, super cab, or a four-door crew cab to help transport your workforce along with your gear. And heavy-duty doesn't mean low on luxury. the F-550 can be had in rubber floor XL, but it can also be had in leather and luxury Lariat trim.
Dual rear wheels are standard, with a number of wheelbases to meet your needs. There are two engines available, one gas and one diesel. The base engine is a 6.8L V10 that generates 288 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque. The diesel is a 6.7L Powerstroke V8 that makes 330 hp and a stump-pulling 750 lb-ft of torque. Both use a six-speed automatic transmission. The Lariat trim is diesel only, and not available in regular cab.
The XL trim is ready to get dirty, with vinyl floors and seats, but it still has a stereo, air conditioning, and tilt wheel. A value package adds a 4.2-inch display screen, chrome bumper, and cruise control.
XLT adds carpeted floors and cloth front seats. Cruise is standard, as is a better stereo with Sync, MP3 capability, and satellite radio. A value pack adds power-adjustable pedals to super and crew cabs, along with an eight-way power driver's seat. Lariat adds leather seating with heating and cooling, plus 10-way power adjustment. It has a 10-speaker Sony audio system with Sync 3 as well as dual climate control.
On trucks this big, fuel economy ratings aren't required, so they aren't provided.
