History/Overview
For a quarter-century, the Expedition has been Ford’s entry in the full-size SUV field, where it had previous fielded the Bronco. The Expedition took the brand’s large SUV in a more modern direction, adding levels of refinement and sophistication that had become required in the class. The current fourth-generation Expedition arrived as a 2018 model.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, Ford has added an off-road-prepped Timberline trim level, and a new Stealth Edition option package that includes a powered-up version of Ford’s 3.5L turbo V6 borrowed from the upscale Lincoln Navigator. Inside, the Expedition gets a redesigned dash with a larger standard touchscreen, and an even bigger optional display.
Available Trims
Ford offers the Expedition in XLT, Limited, Timberline, and Platinum trims. All are powered by a 3.5L turbo V6, a 10-speed transmission, and standard four-wheel drive. Limited and Platinum are also available in a larger Max configuration, with a longer wheelbase and more cargo space.
Standard Features
XLT models come fitted with 18-inch wheels, fog lights, a Class-IV trailer hitch, three-zone auto A/C, power-adjustable front seats, power-folding third row seating, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, blind spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert. New this year is a Sync 4 infotainment system in a 12.0-inch touchscreen.
The new Timberline trim is an off-road focused package that adds skid plates, a spotlight, all-terrain tires, and an upgraded suspension.
Limited models gain 20-inch wheels, front and rear parking sensors, a power tailgate, passive keyless entry, a panoramic sunroof, LED taillights, rain-sensing wipers, and power-fold side mirrors. Limited trim also adds power-adjustable pedals, a 12.4-inch gauge cluster, navigation, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, and heated second-row seats with a power-fold function.
Finally, Platinum trim brings a new 15.5-inch touchscreen; also included are active motion front seats, a cargo management system, and satin chrome exterior trim.
Key Options
An XLT 202A package brings some items you normally have to move to Limited trim to get, like passive keyless, ventilated seats, and a heated steering wheel.
