For 2009, the Ford Expedition adds new standard and optional features. The model's 5.4-litre V8 engine is now fuel-flexible for E85 ethanol-enhanced fuel. New standard features include Ford's capless fuel filling system and SOS post-crash alert, which activates the horn and emergency flashers if the airbags deploy. The Eddie Bauer, King Ranch and Limited trim lines also receive new features.
Available as the Expedition or the long-wheelbase Expedition Max, all models feature three rows of seats for eight-passenger seating. All use the 5.4-litre Triton V8 engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and with Ford's Control Trac four-wheel drive. The regular-wheelbase Expedition comes in XLT, Eddie Bauer, King Ranch and Limited trim, while the Expedition Max comes in Eddie Bauer, King Ranch and Limited.
Features on the XLT include 17-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, auxiliary rear air conditioning and heat, fog lamps, heated mirrors with puddle lamps, black roof side rails and crossbars, black running boards, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input and Sirius satellite radio, cloth seats with six-way power driver's adjustment, 40/20/40 split-bench second-row seat, 60/40 split-flat-folding third-row bench seat, floor mats, keyless entry, SecuriCode keypad, tire pressure monitoring system, auto-dimming rearview mirror, cruise control, auto-down driver's window, leather-wrapped tilt wheel, automatic headlamps, fog lamps, trailer tow package, privacy glass, and front tow hooks.
The Eddie Bauer adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and cooled leather front seats with ten-way driver and six-way passenger power adjustment, power-folding third-row seats, six-CD/MP3 stereo, Sync, message centre with exterior temperature display and compass, power-adjustable pedals, leather-wrapped wheel with audio controls, heated mirrors with puddle lamps and integrated turn signals, and reverse sensing system.
The King Ranch adds Chapparal leather trim, heated second-row seats, power rear quarter windows, leather and wood steering wheel, garage door opener, power liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, and rearview camera.
The Limited adds 18-inch chrome-clad wheels, 10-way power passenger seat, power sunroof, body-colour grille, and chrome roof rails with black crossbars.
The Expedition is big and thirsty, but it's also very roomy and comfortable, with considerable passenger space in all three rows. The Expedition Max also offers more cargo space behind the third row. The short-wheelbase model is also available as the Lincoln Navigator.
