An all-new model, the 2007 Ford Edge crossover SUV features five-passenger seating, Ford’s new 3.5-litre V6 Duratec engine, and front- or all-wheel drive.
Built in Oakville, Ontario, the Edge will also appear as the Lincoln MKX; a version will also be sold as the Mazda CX-9. The Edge’s CD3 platform also forms the basis of the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ.
The 3.5-litre V6 is mated to a six-speed automatic; the available all-wheel drive monitors and predicts traction, and delivers torque to all four wheels even before they begin to slip. The system can also transfer torque front-to-rear and side-to-side.
Features on the SE trim line include 17-inch steel wheels, AdvanceTrac with roll stability control, air conditioning, spoiler, keyless entry, power mirrors, cloth bucket seats, 60/40 split fold-flat second-row seats, side and curtain airbags, floor mats, power windows, cruise control, and CD/MP3 stereo with four speakers.
Options on the SE include auto-dimming rearview mirror, six-CD stereo, auxiliary audio jack, SIRIUS satellite radio, and rear cargo management system.
The SEL adds 17-inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps, six-way power driver’s seat, overhead console, six-CD stereo with nine speakers and wheel-mounted controls, message centre with compass, chrome exhaust tips and dual illuminated vanity mirrors.
Options on the SEL include leather seats, six-way power passenger seat, fold-flat front passenger seat, memory driver’s seat, remote release on the second-row seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated mirrors with puddle lights and memory, Audiophile stereo, DVD entertainment system, and navigation system. The SEL can also be outfitted with a panoramic Vista roof, reverse sensing system and 18-inch wheels.
The Edge is elegantly styled both inside and out, and includes numerous useful features, such as a 20-ounce cupholder in each front door pocket, juice box holders in the rear pockets, and a large centre console with removable divider and tray that can handle everything from MP3 players to laptop computers. The split folding row provides a level load floor that can be opened to eight feet with the optional fold-flat passenger seat. The second-row seats can be folded manually using an industry-first single-hand release, or automatically with an available EasyFold remote release, accessible from the rear cargo area.
