History/Overview
Introduced in 2016, the Fiat 500X was refreshed last year with a new engine and updated styling. This subcompact crossover should be the brand's strongest seller, but that title goes to the 124 Spider.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
For 2020, the Fiat 500X adds a new Sport trim with unique front and rear fascia and dark-finish exterior trim; a black roof option is also now available on all 500X trim levels.
Available Trims
Fiat 500X trims are Pop, Trekking, Sport, and Trekking Plus. All four use a 1.3L turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission. AWD is standard.
Standard Features
Pop trim comes with 17-inch aluminum wheels, drive modes, heated/power-adjustable side mirrors, passive keyless entry, LED taillights, power windows, Bluetooth, air conditioning, tilt-and-telescopic steering, a 3.5-inch driver info centre, a 7.0-inch infotainment display, a six-speaker stereo with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a leather-trimmed shifter, and a premium-wrapped steering wheel.
Trekking trim adds tinted glass, satellite radio, and a height-adjustable cargo floor.
This year's new Sport trim builds on that with body-colour body side mouldings, dark-finish accents, 18-inch wheels, cloth-and-leather trimmed sport seats, and aluminum pedal covers.
Trekking Plus rounds out the 500X's offerings with leather upholstery, heated front seats, an eight-speaker stereo, navigation, front and rear parking sensors, a windshield wiper de-icer, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient interior lighting, and a 12-way power driver's seat. This trim also reverts to 17-inch wheels.
Key Options
Active safety and driver assist features come in an optional advanced driver assist package of adaptive cruise, automatic high beams, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure alert, lane keep assist, and rain-sensing wipers.
The basic driver assistance group brings LED headlights and fog lights, and front and rear parking sensors.
A cold weather group adds heated front seats and a wiper de-icer. The comfort package bundles dual-zone air conditioning, an auto-dimming mirror, ambient lighting, and a power driver's seat with lumbar.
Fuel Economy
Fiat's fuel consumption estimates for the 500X are 10.0/7.9 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Fiat 500X's competitors include some big names. From Japan, there's the Honda HR-V, the Mazda CX-3, Toyota's C-HR, and the Nissan Kicks and Qashqai. South Korea sends the Hyundai Kona, and, not long after you read this, will add the Venue to its lineup.
From domestic brands come the Chevrolet Trax and the Ford Ecosport.
