For 2006, the Dodge Sprinter adds two options: an available ParkSense rear back-up system, and high-pressure headlamp washers.
The Sprinter is primarily a commercial vehicle; built by Mercedes-Benz, it’s also sold under that badge, and under Freightliner’s as well. Still, it’s making some inroads into the full-size consumer van market, and competes with the Ford E-Series van and Chevrolet Express. The Sprinter is available in three wheelbase lengths, and in a standard or “high roof” height. The passenger van has seating for up to ten people.
Standard features on all Sprinters include a 2.7-litre, five-cylinder turbo diesel engine, electronic stability program, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, air conditioning, AM/FM/cassette, and manual mirrors. Several options and packages are available, including back-up alarm, fog lamps, CD player and cruise control.
The passenger van includes rear-seat cup holders, rear window defroster, power heated mirrors, and dual-hinged rear doors. Options include CD stereo, fog lamps, parabolic exterior mirrors, cruise control and heated front windshield with rain sensor. For all its size, it’s surprisingly easy and pleasant to drive, and very well-finished; get the long-wheelbase high-roof and you can hold a barn dance inside.
