History/Overview
Through three generations, the Dodge Durango has served mid-size SUV shoppers looking for a vehicle that provides daily driving comfort with more rugged performance than the crossovers that dominate this category. The current third-gen Durango debuted as a 2011 model and has been updated a handful of time since.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
This year, the Durango SRT Hellcat is back following a hiatus in 2022. As well, GT and R/T trims gain a few new standard features, which we’ve detailed below.
Available Trims
Dodge offers the Durango in six trims: SXT, GT, R/T, Citadel, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat. SXT, GT, and Citadel start with a 3.6L V6; R/T uses a 5.7L V8 that’s optional in Citadel; SRT 392 gets a 6.4L V8; and SRT Hellcat is powered by a supercharged 6.2L V8. All engines are mated to an eight-speed transmission and AWD.
Standard Features
SXT trim starts with auto on/off LED headlights, heated side mirrors, 18-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and passive keyless entry. Inside, there’s a digital gauge display, three-zone A/C, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats with driver power adjustment, heated steering wheel, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and six-speaker audio.
Durango’s standard driver safety assist suite comprises blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
New to GT and R/T this year are a 10.1-inch touchscreen, ventilated front/heated second-row seats, Nappa leather, adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, a sunroof, and a trailer towing package. GT also adds LED fog lights, an auto-dimming driver’s side mirror, a power passenger seat, rear parking sensors, and an integrated garage remote, while R/T brings nine-speaker audio, wireless phone charging, front parking sensors, and an anti-theft alarm.
Citadel brings advanced brake assist, and lane departure warning.
SRT 392 adds 20-inch wheels. SRT Hellcat doesn’t add any extra features, save its 710-hp engine.
Key Options
An SXT Plus pack adds a sunroof, forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise to that trim.
A GT Plus pack adds nine-speaker audio, wireless phone charging, and automatic high beams. An R/T Plus option bundles a 19-speaker stereo, and carbon fibre dash trim.
An SRT Plus bundle for 392 and Hellcat models adds a sunroof, Laguna leather, forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise, lane departure warning, and a trailer tow group. To this, a premium pack adds red Brembo brakes, red seatbelts, carbon fibre trim, and 19-speaker audio.
Fuel Economy
Dodge’s fuel consumption estimates are 13.0/9.4 L/100 km (city/highway) for V6-powered models; 16.7/10.9 L/100 km for 5.7L trucks; 18.3/12.2 L/100 km in SRT 392 form; and 20.5/13.8 L/100 km for the SRT Hellcat.
Competition
The Durango’s in-between size and capabilities mean you can cross-shop it against a range of competitors, like the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Nissan Pathfinder, Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, and Chevrolet Traverse.
