History/Overview
The Dodge Durango has served the brand's mid-size SUV buyers for more than two decades. Initially based on the now-defunct Dakota mid-sized pickup, the third-generation model shares its underpinnings with the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
Changes for 2020 are limited to the R/T trim, which gets new exterior badges. New R/T options include a posh interior package and a new 20-inch wheel design.
Available Trims
Dodge offers the Durango in SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T and SRT trims. SXT and GT use a 3.6L V6 engine; Citadel and R/T get a 5.7L Hemi V8 and the SRT is powered by a 6.4L Hemi. All three engines come with an eight-speed transmission and all-wheel drive.
Standard Features
SXT trim includes bright roof rails with crossbars, automatic on/off headlights, body-colour door handles, LED racetrack taillights, 18-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, passive keyless entry, fog lights, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a fold-flat front passenger seat, leather-trimmed steering wheel, a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster display, tilt-and-telescopic steering, full-length floor and overhead consoles, cloth upholstery, seven-passenger seating, Uconnect infotainment in a 7.0-inch touchscreen display, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and tri-zone automatic climate control.
GT trim adds a power tailgate, an auto-dimming driver's side mirror, LED daytime running lights, 20-inch wheels, 12-way driver and 10-way front passenger power seat adjustments with four-way lumbar, heated steering wheel, leather seating with perforated suede inserts, a 115-volt power outlet, and heated front and second-row seats.
Citadel models gain a sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, auto-leveling HID low-beams, automatic high beams, chrome door handles, Sirius XM Travel Link, Traffic and Guardian, leather-trimmed door panels, power steering column adjustments, cargo cover and cargo net, an 8.4-inch infotainment display with navigation, a nine-speaker stereo with subwoofer and Nappa leather upholstery.
R/T trim brings a performance hood, grille and front fascia, LED fog lights and standard leather upholstery.
SRT models gain back Nappa leather and add ambient lighting, SRT logos in the floor mats and ventilated front seats.
Key Options
All trims can be optioned with a trailer tow group.
A technology group offered in GT trim and higher adds adaptive cruise, forward collision warning with automatic braking and lane departure warning with lane keep assist.
Heated seats and a heated steering wheel are bundled as an extra in SXT trim.
Fuel Economy
Dodge's fuel consumption estimates for the Durango are 12.7/9.6 L/100 km (city/highway) with the V6, 16.7/10.9 with the 5.7L V8 and 18.3/12.2 L/100 km for the SRT and its 6.4L engine.
Competition
The Durango is an in-betweener that's more of a truck than most mid-size SUVs (think Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride) but less of one than full-sizers like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition. It also competes with the similar Jeep Grand Cherokee, though that posher vehicle is a stronger off-roader and lacks a third row of seats.
