Having undergone a complete makeover for 2008, the Town & Country undergoes minimal changes for 2009. The most noticeable change is the deletion of the base 3.8-litre V6 engine; there are also additions to the option packages, and new Blind Spot Detection and Cross Path Detection. The system warns drivers when other vehicles are in the blind spot, or when cross-traffic is approaching when the driver is backing up.
With the deletion of the 3.8-litre V6 in the Touring model, both the Touring and Limited models use a 4.0-litre V6, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Both models feature standard Stow 'n Go seating, in which the second-row seats fold flat into the floor. Both can also be optioned with Swivel 'n Go, in which the second-row seats can be swivelled 180 degrees to face to the rear, with a removable plastic table that fits in between the second and third rows. These seats don't fold into the floor, but the Stow 'n Go's covered bins which hold the folded seats and can be used for small-item storage when the seats are up, are included on all models.
Features on the Touring model include 16-inch alloy wheels, three-zone manual temperature control with rear heater/air conditioning, keyless entry, dual power sliding doors, power liftgate, easy-clean floor mats, garage door opener, fog lamps, automatic headlamps, LED halo lighting, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, power-adjustable pedals, roof rack, Stain Repel cloth seats with eight-way power driver's adjustment, Stow 'n Go second-row seats, CD/MP3 stereo, cruise control, leather-wrapped wheel with audio controls, tire pressure monitor warning lamp, power windows with driver's auto/up down, second-row power windows, power rear quarter windows, variable intermittent wipers, and rear washer/wiper.
The Limited adds 17-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels, three-zone automatic climate control with air filtration, electronic vehicle information centre, high-intensity discharge headlamps with SmartBeam high-beam control system, driver's side memory, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rear park assist, rear backup camera, remote starter, leather-faced first and second row heated seats with microfibre inserts, eight-way power passenger seat, security alarm, second- and third-row retractable sunshades, UConnect Tunes 30GB hard-disc-drive CD/DVD/MP3 stereo, Sirius satellite radio, premium centre console, tire pressure monitor display, and rain-sensing wipers.
The upscale Chrysler version of the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Town & Country is extremely quiet and pleasant to drive, especially with its across-the-board 4.0-litre engine. The Stow 'n Go seats can be hard, as their foam needs to be thinner so they can fold; it's a trade-off for an interior that can be instantly reconfigured without hauling out heavy seats or needing a seat that's at home in your garage. The Town & Country confidently stands up to minivans such as the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna; for 2009, there's also a version of the Chrysler minivan at Volkswagen, badged as the Routan.
