For 2006, the Chrysler Sebring’s line-up is reduced: the sedan is available as the Sebring and Sebring Touring, while the convertible comes as the Sebring Convertible, Touring and Limited. The only other changes are available satellite radio and a new Silver Steel Metallic exterior colour which replaces Graphite Metallic.
Two engines are available. The Sebring uses a 2.4-litre four-cylinder and includes cloth seats, air conditioning, power windows and locks with keyless remote, dual power mirrors, engine immobilizer, CD player, cruise control, 60/40 rear folding seat and 15-inch steel wheels.
The Touring uses a 2.7-litre V6 and adds touring suspension with front and rear stabilizer bars, and 16-inch aluminum wheels.
The convertible comes only with the V6 and includes a power-folding black vinyl convertible top with boot cover, four-window-down feature, solar-tinted windshield, variable intermittent wipers, quad halogen headlamps with time delay and illuminated vanity mirrors.
The convertible Touring adds a cloth power top, fog lamps, 16-inch aluminum wheels, leather-faced seats, six-way power driver’s seat, leather-wrapped wheel, and compass and temperature display.
The Limited adds black or dark taupe cloth power top, premium heated leather-faced seats, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and low-speed traction control, six-CD/cassette stereo, premium speaker system, electroluminescent instrument cluster, woodgrain trim, auto-dimming rearview mirror, fog lamps, bright exhaust tip, deluxe door trim panels, automatic temperature control, automatic headlamps, garage door opener and 16-inch chrome-clad wheels.
While its design is getting long in the tooth, the Sebring is still a roomy and comfortable ride, although it faces stiff competition from the new, redesigned Hyundai Sonata and Chevrolet Impala. The convertible is still an out-and-out winner, though, offering four-seater comfort and a drop top that starts well under forty grand.
