History/Overview
At its 2017 introduction, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid was the auto industry’s first-ever gas-electric minivan, and the segment’s first plug-in model. As an extension of the gas-powered Pacifica lineup, the Pacifica Hybrid adds electric driving capability to this van’s design and features.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, Chrysler has added Amazon Fire TV functionality to the Pacifica Hybrid’s available features. Rear-seat passengers can use the system through the van’s optional entertainment system, and it can also be run on the main infotainment display when the transmission is in park.
Specific to Pacifica Hybrid is a new “max regeneration” message that appears in the gauge cluster in certain driving situations.
Available Trims
Chrysler offers the Pacifica Hybrid in Touring L, Limited, and Pinnacle trim levels. Power for all comes from a 3.6L V6 gas engine and an electric motor; they team up to make 260 hp, which goes to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission. Unlike the gas-powered Pacifica, the hybrid model does not offer AWD.
Standard Features
Pacifica Hybrid’s Touring L trim comes with passive keyless entry, 17-inch alloy wheels, auto on/off LED headlights, and LED fog lights. Inside, there’s a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a 7.0-inch gauge display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power driver’s seat, second-row window shades, three-zone A/C, and ambient lighting.
Touring L’s safety kit includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear park assist with automatic braking, forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, and rain-sensing wipers.
Limited trim adds auto-dimming/power-folding side mirrors, hands-free tailgate and sliding side doors, a heated steering wheel, navigation, heated/ventilated front seats, a power front passenger seat, a dual-pane sunroof, third-row window shades, a 13-speaker stereo, and footwell lighting.
Pinnacle models gain 18-inch wheels, automatic high beams, a suede headliner, Amazon Fire TV, surround-view cameras, front park assist with automatic braking, parallel/perpendicular parking assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning with lane keep assist.
Key Options
A theatre family group is the way to add rear-seat entertainment to your Pacifica Hybrid; in lower trims, this option also adds other upscale features that are standard in posher models.
Fuel Economy
Chrysler’s energy consumption estimates for the Pacifica Hybrid are 2.9 Le/100 km when running on electricity, and 8.0/7.9 L/100 km (city/highway) in gas-electric hybrid mode. Chrysler says a full charge off the battery promises 51 km of electric driving.
Competition
The Pacifica Hybrid’s closest competitor is the Toyota Sienna, which only comes with a hybrid powertrain, and is the segment’s only other electrified model. In terms of minivans, your only other options are the Honda Odyssey and the Kia Carnival.
