If you need three rows of seats in an SUV but Chevrolet’s Tahoe full-size SUV is too large, the next step down is the mid-size Traverse. It has been part of the brand’s lineup since 2009 and was redesigned into a second generation in 2018.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, Chevy has refreshed the Traverse’s styling, made the Chevrolet Safety Assist suite of driver assists standard across the line, and added a few new high-tech features standard and optional in various trims.
Available Trims
Chevrolet offers the Traverse in LS, LT, RS, True North, Premier, and North Country trim levels. All use a 3.6L V6 engine, a nine-speed transmission, and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive, depending on trim.
Standard Features
New to LS trim is and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Carry-over features include 18-inch aluminum wheels, heated side mirrors, LED headlights/taillights, a digital driver info display, six-speaker audio, a power driver’s seat, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, heated front seats and side mirrors, passive keyless entry, and three-zone A/C.
Also newly standard in LS is the Chevrolet Safety Assist suite of forward collision alert with pedestrian detection and automatic braking, following distance indicator, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and automatic high beams.
LT adds a heavy-duty engine cooling system, trailer hitch guidance, a power tailgate, remote engine start, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a camera-based rearview mirror, blind spot monitor with lane change alert, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, rear cross-traffic alert, rear park assist, wireless charging, and rear pedestrian alert.
RS trim brings 20-inch wheels, power-folding side mirrors, dual-panel sunroof, navigation, 10-speaker audio, adaptive cruise control, enhanced auto emergency braking, a 120-volt power outlet, a power front passenger seat with lumbar, heated steering wheel, surround-view cameras, and leather seating.
True North models gain all-weather floor liners, and trim-specific wheels.
Premier trim gets its own wheel 20-inch wheel design, chrome roof rails and door handles, a hands-free tailgate, power-folding side mirrors, an 8.0-inch driver info display, heated rear seats, a power-adjustable steering wheel, safety alert driver’s seat, and ventilated front seats.
Finally, High Country trim adds a power-folding third row seat, chrome front sill plates, and carpeted floor mats.
Key Options
An LS safety package adds blind spot monitoring, lane change alert, rear cross traffic alert, and rear park assist. A Premier Red Line Edition pack brings trailering equipment, black wheels, and other black trim elements.
Fuel Economy
Chevrolet’s fuel consumption estimates are 13.0/8.8 L/100 km (city/highway) for FWD models, and 13.6/9.6 L/100 km with AWD.
Competition
The Chevy Traverse’s competitors are the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, Ford Explorer, Volkswagen Atlas, Buick Enclave, Dodge Durango, Mazda CX-9, and GMC Acadia.
