History
The Chevrolet Traverse is the brand's largest crossover model, slotting in below the full-size, truck-based Tahoe and Suburban SUVs. Chevy introduced this second-generation model in 2018, after the first-gen design soldiered on for nearly a decade.
Year-Over-Year Changes
The 2020 Traverse carries over with no major updates as Chevrolet gears up for a mid-cycle refresh next year.
Competition
Chevrolet markets the Traverse to compete with the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder and Toyota Highlander. General Motors' GMC and Buick brands each sell vehicles based on underpinnings shared with the Traverse. The GMC Acadia is a bit smaller, while the Buick Enclave matches the Chevy's size and is aimed at upscale buyers. Traverse's roughly $60,000 High Country trim reaches into entry-level luxury territory where it could be shopped against the likes of the Infiniti QX60 and Lexus RX L.
Trims
Chevrolet offers the Traverse in LS, LT, RS, Premier and High Country trims. All come standard with a 3.6L V6 (310 hp/266 lb-ft of torque) save for a front-wheel drive RS package that builds on the LT and includes a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder with 255 hp/295 lb-ft. LS and LT trims start with front-drive and option to AWD; Premier and High Country are AWD-only.
Standard Features
LS trim includes tire pressure monitoring, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six USB ports, 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, eight-passenger cloth seating, passive keyless entry, three-zone automatic climate control, 18-inch wheels, HID headlights and heated side mirrors.
LT adds blind spot monitoring with lane change and rear cross traffic alerts, seven-passenger seating, fog lights, power tailgate, rear park assist, remote engine start, 8.0-inch infotainment screen, eight-way power driver's seat, heated front seats, leather-trimmed steering wheel and a 4.2-inch driver information centre.
RS brings 20-inch black wheels, navigation, 10-speaker stereo, rear camera mirror, surround vision exterior cameras, 12-volt power outlet, leather seating and a power front passenger seat.
True North gets many of the same items as RS, but has 20-inch silver wheels and comes standard with AWD.
Premier trim adds forward collision alert with pedestrian detection and low-speed automatic braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, perforated leather seating, ventilated front seats, dual-panel sunroof, LED headlights with automatic high beams, auto-dimming side mirrors, heated steering wheel with power adjustments, heated second-row seats and wireless smartphone charging.
Finally, High Country gets a locking rear differential, adaptive cruise control with automatic all-speed braking, polished aluminum 20-inch wheels and a power-folding third-row seat.
Options
Most trims offer the option of an exterior blackout package. Certain Traverse trims can alternately be had with a Midnight Edition package of 20-inch black wheels and black exterior badges. A Redline Edition also gets 20-inch black wheels, but with red accents.
Fuel Economy
As of this writing, Chevrolet had yet to publish fuel consumption estimates for the 2020 Traverse. However, they should be similar to those for the 2019 model. With the 2.0L engine and FWD, ratings are 11.7/9.0 L/100 km (city/highway). V6 models are rated 13.0/8.8 with FWD and 13.7/9.5 with AWD.
